SYNCOPE/TWILIGHT
2020
Syncope/Twilight is a series of images on a 35 mm filmstrip, which had expired in 1998 and was developed in 2019. Various factors such as age, temperature and light have affected the film and all that can be seen is an abstract pattern of the film's broken chemistry.
The title Syncope derives from the Ancient Greek “sunkopē”, which means to “strike or cut off”. Today the term syncope is used in phonetics, music and medicine to describe a loss between two states. The images on the film depict the lost state between 1998 and 2019.
