DEATH OF THE MILKY WAY
2022

Death of The Milky Way is a series of photogravure etchings and a sculptural installation of cast iron street lanterns from 1880.

The photogravure etchings are images of the lantern's shadows. The lanterns were placed directly onto light sensitive photo-polymer plates, where UV sunlight etched an imprint of the shadow into the plate.

Since the late 1800’s street lighting and the consequential light pollution of the night sky has increased exponentially all over the world. The places on earth today where you can see the stars and The Milky Way at night are fast decreasing.
