THE COLOURFUL AFTERMATH OF A VIOLENT STELLAR DEATH
2022

The Colourful Aftermath of a Violent Stellar Death I-IX are photogravure etchings of Supernova remnants in the Milky Way. Supernova remnants are the remains from exploding stars. Ultraviolet (UV) light is produced by stars and also the light form that is used for etching photogravure printing plates.

The etchings are based on drawings from deconstructed photographs from the Hubble Space Telescope. Hubble use black and white photography to photograph different spectrums of light invisible to the human eye, to gain knowledge about different elements of galaxies and stars. Later, the black and white photographs are individually coloured and combined into one brightly coloured image. NASA astrophysicists state that colouring is based on equal parts art and science.

The work reflects on the coexistence and interdependency of art and science.
